An Opportunity on Campus

As a first-year student, I decided to live on campus. I knew that getting around by walking wasn't very time efficient, but I knew that I didn't want to pay for a scooter. Thus, I brought my bike to Gainesville and we both moved into Rawlings Hall. My bike is a really nice bike that I had bought several years ago and had kept in great condition. However, when I got to Rawlings, I realized that I would have to keep my bike outside. This was the end of my beautiful bike. After one semester at UF, my bike's chain, gears, and other features were completely rusted and needed replacing. This is when I realized the true effects of weathering on objects like bikes. My idea today came from a time that I rode my bike down to Garage V to pick up my car and I realized something unique: some of the bike racks there were covered. That is when I began to realize that almost none of the other bike racks on campus were covered and that this could be the solution to stopping my bike from...

Local Opportunities for Change

Opportunity #1 Title:   " Lack of parking causing problems for students at apartment complex near UF" Link: https://mycbs4.com/news/local/students-complain-about-lack-of-parking-at-apartment-complex Story: This article talks about a problem that many students face in the areas surrounding the University of Florida: parking one's car. There is very little parking because of the high number of students with cars in the area. Finding parking is a major priority in the lives of students living off-campus because parking on the street will result in one's car being towed. The only option for many students is to park far away and journey back to their apartment.  Problem: The lack of available parking in the areas surrounding off-campus apartments. Who Has This Problem: UF students,  and apartment property management companies like Trimark who now have unhappy customers. Opportunity #2 Title:   "UF Health backs off employee parking decal price increase...

My Entrepreneurship Story

Image
For me, the entrepreneurship story started on day one. I am fortunate to have been raised around an entrepreneur my entire life. From way before I was born and still, to this day, someone super influential in my life has shown me what entrepreneurship is like: that person is my father. As an 18-year-old kid, he started a commercial painting company here in Gainesville, Florida. It was only one year later that I was born.  My father's company, EPI Painting Inc., began as a little portion of a massive industry almost 19 years ago. Dad told stories of when business was slow and the cops came to repossess his paint sprayers. Struggles in the beginning only make success taste so much sweeter down the road. Throughout my life, my father has worked as hard as he could to see what started as a dream slowly develope into a smoothly functioning company with 20+ employees working on some of the biggest projects throughout North Florida. The reason that I am taking this class is so that I ...

My "Bug" List

Cason Schneider 1/22/19 The windows in the Rawlings ground floor bathroom let air through their gaps making the bathroom freezing in the cold. This is because the building is really old and the costs to fix it up simply aren’t worth it because they are tearing down the building at years end. The AC has to be set super high and cold because of mold potentially growing in the building, specifically on the ground floor. This is because the building is really old and needs to be replaced by a new building. The lack of coverings over many of the bike racks here on campus results in ruined bicycles. The university doesn’t see the cost of protecting students' bikes as directly important  to its own well being. Thus, it goes overlooked. There is a lack of student “Red 1” parking anywhere close to the Heavener side of campus. We have a lack of space on campus. A solution would be to obtain funding and build a parking garage over the parking spaces betwee...
