My Entrepreneurship Story

For me, the entrepreneurship story started on day one. I am fortunate to have been raised around an entrepreneur my entire life. From way before I was born and still, to this day, someone super influential in my life has shown me what entrepreneurship is like: that person is my father.

As an 18-year-old kid, he started a commercial painting company here in Gainesville, Florida. It was only one year later that I was born.  My father's company, EPI Painting Inc., began as a little portion of a massive industry almost 19 years ago. Dad told stories of when business was slow and the cops came to repossess his paint sprayers. Struggles in the beginning only make success taste so much sweeter down the road. Throughout my life, my father has worked as hard as he could to see what started as a dream slowly develope into a smoothly functioning company with 20+ employees working on some of the biggest projects throughout North Florida.

The reason that I am taking this class is so that I can enter my father's company working to grow and expand into new markets with new obstacles and challenges using the skills I learn here to increase our chances of success. I want to learn where others have made mistakes in uncharted territory so that I am less likely to repeat those when I enter this territory in my life/career. I hope to learn how to effectively "Jump" as Steve Harvey would say, for my future endeavors in the business world.

  1. Cason,
I find it inspiring that your dad has stuck with his business and his passion all this time! His story is proof that hard work does pay off in the long run, and that when you have a passion you can’t let failure steer you away. I wonder, do children of entrepreneurs tend to also have an entrepreneurial kick? I’m sure it has been great having him as a role model in your life.

  3. Hi Carson,
Thanks for sharing, this was a great story! Your father is an amazing success story and taking this class for such a concrete reason as to help grow his company is fantastic. I'm sure you father has had many struggles along the way being an entrepreneur of that kind, but having him push through and end up at the point that he is now is a great example of how hard work and perseverance are crucial for entrepreneurs.
