14A – Halfway Reflection

Halfway Course Reflection

1) What are the behaviors that you have used (or developed) to keep up with the requirements of this course?
The main thing I have focused on is not starting each of the assignments too late in the week. I opted to not work ahead yet I made sure to start each week's assignments early in the week they were assigned. By doing this, I enabled myself to get all the interviews I needed to and write well-thought-out blog posts for each assignment. This is a behavior that I have worked hard to develop this semester because I realize how important it is.
2) Talk about a moment or two when you felt like "giving up." What pulled you through? Do you feel like you've developed a tenacious attitude during the past two months? What experience or experiences most contributed to this?
During the week of assignments 11A and 12A, I had one of the busiest weeks of my entire life. Because UF Student Government elections were taking place, I was helping Gator Party get people out to vote, which turned out to be a successful campaign. On top of that, I had an exam to study for and take, a speech to prepare for, and an application to FLA due. Simply put, last week was crazy. I wanted to quit and go play golf on many occasions, however, what pulled my through was my strong internal desire to succeed. It's like a challenge to me. I believe I have a tenacious mindset and that it was developed long before coming to UF. Was there a moment when that formed, likely not. However, my parents are both tenacious people and that was passed down to me.
3) What are three tips you would offer next semester's student about (1) fostering the skills that support tenacity and (2) developing the 'tenacious mindset'?
The first and maybe the most important tip is that you must have a calendar system. Without a calendar, you can be as tenacious as you want, however, without the means to keep yourself organized, you prepare for failure. Know when projects/assignments are due to avoid missing valuable points.
Second, you must find something to be motivated towards. Part of a tenacious mindset is grasping something tightly. For you, this must be the end goal. If that goal/motivator is getting an "A" in this class, you must grasp it tightly and use it as your motivation to get each assignment done with excellence. Without this, you will quickly get tired of the many class assignments.
Thirdly, pick a business idea you feel passionately about when you pick one to work on for this class. If you don't then you will not get the most you can out of this class, thus, it may not change your life. In order to be tenacious, you must be motivated. To be motivated, you must be passionate about said things. Pick an idea/business concept that is amazing, that excites you.
These will lead you on a path to developing and maintaining a tenacious mindset.

Getting here means you are a tenacious and motivated person!

  1. Hello Cason!

I absolutely agree with your statement regarding not beginning assignments too late in the week - I mentioned this in my post as well. Moreover, I am truly inspired by your honesty and perseverance during the 11A and 12A assignments.

Lastly, I really enjoyed your last three tips. You took a different perspective on it than I did when I completely the assignment. I focused more on implementing your feedback and knowing your strengths and weaknesses - I like how you incorporated more tips regarding developing your business idea.

Great job and thank you for sharing!

  2. Cason,

I agree that a large part of success in this class is working ahead to get the assignments done fully and sufficiently without rushing. Giving yourself enough time to complete each assignment takes a lot of stress away and produces better results. Good advice!
